A Special Events Consultant is a professional who helps clients plan and execute events. They work with clients to create and execute marketing strategies for events, including developing budgets, booking venues, and creating a timeline for the event. They also help plan and execute the actual event itself. Special events consultants often work in public relations, but they can also work in hospitality or marketing.

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as a point person for clients, handling communications and logistics.
  • Create and maintain a calendar of events for each client.
  • Attend all events, liaise between clients and other consultants, and ensure the success of each event.
  • Provide feedback to clients on which events were successful and why.
  • Plans and coordinates all meetings with clients to discuss event details.
  • Attends meetings with clients and vendors regarding the event.
  • Maintains records of all expenses associated with each event.
  • Planning and organizing special events, such as weddings and birthdays.
  • Creating event timelines, from start to finish.
  • Booking venues and vendors for the event.
  • Selecting appropriate music for the event.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in event planning, with at least two years in the past three years in an administrative capacity
  • Demonstrated skills in customer service and team management
  • Knowledge of event planning software (such as Eventbrite)
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong background in marketing and advertising
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
