SUMMARY:
A Special Education Teacher is a dedicated professional who plays a crucial role in providing specialized education and support to students with disabilities. FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:
- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
- Collaborate with parents, school staff, and specialists to create and review IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Develop and implement strategies and accommodations to support each student’s unique learning needs.
- Curriculum Adaptation:
- Modify and adapt the curriculum to suit the individual learning styles and abilities of students with disabilities.
- Create and utilize appropriate instructional materials and resources.
- Instruction and Support:
- Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities, both individually and in small groups.
- Offer academic and behavioral support to help students achieve their educational goals.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Assess and evaluate students’ progress regularly.
- Use assessment data to adjust instructional strategies and goals as needed.
- Inclusive Classroom Environment:
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes diversity and embraces students’ individual strengths and challenges.
- Promote social and emotional learning and facilitate peer interactions.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and support staff to provide updates on students’ progress and address concerns.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
- State teaching certification or licensure in special education.
- Proven experience working with students with disabilities.
- Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to connect with and support students with diverse needs.
- Classroom management and behavior intervention skills.
