SUMMARY:
The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and processing loan applications to determine the borrower’s ability to repay the mortgage loan. This position requires excellent customer service skills combined with a high level of technical knowledge about mortgages.

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:
- Analyze and verify the financial status of a prospective borrower.
- Perform due diligence on loan applicants and property.
- Research various credit reports to determine whether or not an applicant has enough money to pay back their mortgage loan.
- Ensure that all pertinent information is included in the loan application.
- Verify that all information on the application is accurate, including income, assets, liabilities, employment history and credit history.
- Work with mortgage lenders to ensure that all documentation is in order and that any risks associated with the loan are mitigated.
- Attend meetings with clients and other employees of your company to go over the details of loans and make sure everyone is on the same page.
- Negotiate terms with lenders or other parties involved in a transaction.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
- 3 – 5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, with at least 1 year in a management role.
- Familiarity with various loan programs.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with tenants, brokers, vendors, and other staff members.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written).
