Financial planners are responsible for advising clients on their financial goals, helping them to reach those goals, and making sure they are on track to do so. They help clients with budgeting and bill-paying, investment portfolios, retirement planning, insurance needs, and estate planning.

- Gathers and analyzes financial data to create financial plans for individuals and businesses.
- Calculates loan payments, savings goals, retirement planning, and investment strategies.
- Counsels clients on the use of credit and debt management, insurance planning, tax consequences of investments and other financial issues.
- Researching and analyzing information to develop alternative ways to invest money or manage debt
- Helping clients understand how to make the most of their finances through education and personal attention.
- Creating financial plans that take into account current economic conditions, tax laws, future needs, risk tolerance level, etc.
- Explaining different ways that clients can achieve their goals (e.g. investing in stocks vs bonds).
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration.
- Experience working with clients and financial products.
- Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
- An understanding of financial planning processes and procedures.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects at once.
