SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, development, and support of databases. This position requires a high level of expertise in database technologies, including knowledge of SQL and the ability to design, code and implement database solutions. The Database Administrator must have a strong understanding of different types of databases and their uses. They must also be able to create test plans, define and document technical specifications, manage projects, troubleshoot issues and resolve customer problems.
Database Administrators typically use Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle as their primary database platform; however, experience with other popular products such as MySQL and PostgreSQL is also considered valuable.

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:
- Maintain the database by ensuring that it is secure, up-to-date and compatible with other systems.
- Update and maintain internal documentation for the database.
- Provide support for the database to users.
- Ensure that all data is backed up regularly and appropriately.
- Design and implement new databases for [company name] projects.
- Maintain existing databases by ensuring they are functioning at optimal levels.
- Update database software as needed, including updating operating systems or making changes to the hardware configuration of a system (e.g., adding or removing memory).
- Resolve issues that may arise with databases (e.g., connectivity issues between systems).
- Work with the development team to ensure that all data is stored in a secure and efficient manner.
- Monitor database performance and make recommendations for improvement.
- Create reports on database usage and performance, as well as other metrics that are relevant to their work.
- Participate in regular meetings with managers or peers to discuss how best to meet goals and manage resources.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- 3+ years of experience working as a Database Administrator in a professional environment.
- Proficient in SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, MySQL and other scripting languages.
- Proficient in MS Access, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Toad Data Modeler (Toad), Oracle SQL Developer (OSD), Navicat, and pgAdmin. Experience with Redshift preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS and Azure.
- Must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions on your own without being constantly supervised.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (verbal and written).
