SUMMARY:
A Court Transcriptionist is responsible for creating verbatim written records of court proceedings, legal hearings, depositions, and other legal events. FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:
- Transcription Services:
- Attend court sessions, legal hearings, and depositions to create accurate verbatim transcripts.
- Listen to audio recordings and transcribe spoken words into written documents.
- Ensure that all court proceedings are accurately documented, including spoken words, gestures, and background noises.
- Audio Equipment Operation:
- Set up and operate audio recording and playback equipment.
- Monitor and adjust recording levels and clarity as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with recording equipment.
- Document Formatting:
- Format transcripts in accordance with legal and court standards.
- Properly mark and identify speakers and participants.
- Ensure consistency in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Confidentiality:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all court proceedings and legal information.
- Adhere to ethical standards and legal requirements regarding the handling of sensitive information.
- Research and Terminology:
- Familiarize oneself with legal terminology and court procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Proven experience as a court transcriptionist or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in typing and transcription software.

- Strong grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
