Career Designations For Compensation Professionals
Compensation, benefits, and human resources professionals can add credentials through designations offered by WorldatWork. We will explore the different credentials as follows:
CCP
CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) is a mid level designation for compensation and human resources professionals. It is awarded to applicants who successfully complete the required examinations, application process and experience requirements, and agree to adhere to the WorldatWork Code of Ethics. CCPs are considered experts in their field and are often sought out as speakers at conferences, board members or executive search consultants because of their knowledge and expertise in human capital practices. A key focus of CCPs is on research within human capital management as well as its practical application through effective consulting services.
GRP
The GRP (Global Remuneration Professional) designation with a focus on global compensation. You can add this to the CCP certification process to gain two certifications at the same time. In addition to meeting the requirements for CCP certification, GRPs must also agree to adhere to the WorldatWork Code of Ethics.
CBP
Compensation Benefits Partner (CBP) is a designation for entry to mid level compensation professionals who have demonstrated their expertise in benefits design and administration. CBP is open to all compensation professionals who meet the qualification requirements, including those outside of WorldatWork membership.
CECP
The CECP (Certified Executive Compensation Professional) designation is a recognition of high-level professionals who demonstrate a proven understanding of the compensation and benefits discipline, as well as an ongoing commitment to professional development. Candidates must have at least three years of relevant experience within their organization, or five years of experience in the field. They must also meet minimum experience requirements in each of these areas:
- Compensation Strategy
- Total Reward Strategy
- Employee Engagement/Leadership Development Strategy
- Performance Management Program Design and Delivery (including both individual and team bonus plans)
The CECP designation is designed for professionals who are leaders in their organizations—they’re passionate about compensation and benefits, want to make a difference in the world (and beyond), are willing to commit themselves to continuous learning, and aspire to be respected thought leaders on matters related to talent management.
CSCP
The CSCP (Certified Sales Compensation Professional) is for professionals with one or two years of sales compensation. This credential only requires passing one knowledge section versus the others that are more rigorous.
Certified professionals have a wealth of opportunities, as well. For example, if you’re looking to move from one industry to another or are simply interested in staying up-to-date on the latest trends and practices, there are several ways for you to continue your education. The following designations can be obtained through WorldatWork’s Continuing Education program by completing courses that focus on specific areas of interest (e.g., leadership) and then passing an exam at the end of every course.*
As you can see, there are a lot of ways to take your career to the next level as a compensation and benefits professional. The process can be difficult, but it’s worth it in the end. By earning one or more designations, you will be able to show prospective employers that you’re serious about your work and ready for any challenge they throw at you.
